Overview

The Irrigation Technician will designs, repairs and maintains systems used to water residential homes and Common areas. Common duties to list in an Irrigation Technician job description include conducting soil tests, assembling equipment and diagnosing irrigation system issues.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • JOB DESCRIPTION:

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    The essential duties and responsibilities are listed below. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Activate and deactivate irrigation systems according to seasonal priorities or pre-established schedules.
    • Repair and troubleshoot irrigation systems as required.
    • Lay out and install new or renovated irrigation systems.
    • Purchase parts required to repair irrigation systems maintaining accurate inventory and strict cost control.
    • Submit to Supervisor thorough and accurate billing information for chargeable work performed.
    • Promote and maintain safe working conditions.
    • Program irrigation clocks to ensure proper watering of landscapes maintained.
    • Ensure proper use, care, and inventory of company vehicle, equipment and tools assigned.
    • Gather and update historical data for each account regarding water sources, point of connection and mainline location, services performed, and parts installed.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience 

  • High school diploma or equivalency preferred. 
  • OSHA Certification a plus 
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of irrigation, pest control, and landscaping.  
  • Knowledge and understanding of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) required 

 

Skills and Abilities 

  • Operate mechanical and electrical machinery/equipment 
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills to help create effective customer-focused relationships with all levels within the organization.  
  • Able to work under tight deadlines, use time effectively based on key priorities, and understand directives given. 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Strong problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality 
  • Communicate, receive, and exchange ideas and information by means of spoken and written. 
  • Basic command of computer hardware/software is required  
  • Position may require a valid Driver’s License.

  • Able to work under pressure, maintain composure and utilize good judgement during emergency/difficult and stressful situations. 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. following appropriate safety procedures.   
  • Ability to properly utilize gas or electric powered equipment and follow all required safety procedures   
  • Ability to: 
  • work in an upright standing position for long periods of time 
  • crawl in small and tight spaces 
  • work in different environmental working conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain).  
  • walk and climb stairs 
  • stoop and bend 
  • Extensive use of fingers for typing and visual use of the computer monitor.  
  • Handle, grasp, feel objects and equipment.  
  • Reach with hands and arms.  
  • Ability to quickly and easily navigate property/buildings is required to meet the job functions.  
  • Repeat various motions with wrists, hands and fingers.  
  • Ability to detect auditory and/or visual emergency alarms.  
  • May be required to perform work outdoors during all seasons  
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights above ground level. 
  • Ability to hear, understand and respond appropriately to verbal requests made in person and over the telephone. 
  • Visual ability correctable to 20/20. 
  • Ability to respond verbally in an understandable, professional manner in person and over the telephone. 
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends if needed.
