Overview

The Roads Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled labor and general maintenance work related to the upkeep, repair, and safety of all POA-owned roads and associated infrastructure. This includes road surface repair, drainage system maintenance, signage installation, debris removal, and seasonal operations such as snow and ice control. The technician plays a vital role in ensuring safe and navigable roads for residents and visitors within the community. 

The Roads Maintenance Technician provides exemplary service in a manner consistent with the values and mission of the Castle Group.  He or she performs all responsibilities while demonstrating outstanding customer service skills representative of Castle Royal Service. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance of POA roads including patching potholes, sealing cracks, grading gravel roads, and repairing pavement. 
  • Inspect roads and shoulders for wear, damage, and hazards; report and/or address deficiencies promptly. 
  • Maintain and clear drainage systems such as ditches, culverts, and stormwater pipes. 
  • Perform erosion control work including installing riprap, silt fences, and drainage structures. 
  • Install and maintain road signs, traffic control devices, and safety markers as directed. 
  • Set up temporary signage and barriers for work zones and emergencies. 
  • Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment such as dump trucks, graders, backhoes, compactors, and hand tools. 
  • Conduct routine inspections and minor maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment; report major issues. 
  • Assist with other POA maintenance tasks including grounds work, facility support, and special projects as needed. 
  • Respond to service requests and emergencies as part of a rotating on-call schedule. 
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • 2+ years of experience in road maintenance, construction, or related field preferred. 
  • Experience operating heavy machinery and working with asphalt, gravel, and concrete. 
  • Knowledge of roadway safety standards and construction best practices. 
  • Ability to read maps, work orders, and maintenance schedules. 
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain. 
  • Ability to perform physical labor in outdoor environments under various weather conditions.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs. following appropriate safety procedures.   
  • Ability to: 
  • work in an upright standing position for long periods of time 
  • Crawl in small and tight spaces.  
  • work in different environmental working conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain).  
  • Walk and climb stairs 
  • Regularly exposed to loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather. 
  • Extensive use of fingers for typing and visual use of the computer monitor.  
  • Handle, grasp, feel objects and equipment.  
  • Reach with hands and arms.  
  • Ability to quickly and easily navigate property/buildings are required to meet the job functions 
  • Repeat various motions with wrists, hands and fingers.  
  • Ability to detect auditory and/or visual emergency alarms.  
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights above ground level. 
  • Ability to hear, understand and respond appropriately to verbal requests made in person and over the telephone. 
  • Ability to respond verbally in an understandable, professional manner in person and over the telephone. 
  • Ability to stoop and bend. 
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends if needed.
