Overview

The Head Golf Professional is responsible for overseeing the entire golf operation, including managing staff, delivering exceptional customer service, organizing tournaments, and maintaining the integrity of the golf experience.  This position ensures a high-quality experience for members, guests, and visitors while supporting the overall goals of the resort.

 

The Head Golf Professional provides exemplary service in a manner consistent with the values and mission of the Castle Group.  He or she performs all responsibilities while demonstrating outstanding customer service skills as a representative of Castle Royal Service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Director of Golf with:
    • Overseeing daily golf operations including the golf shops, practice facilities, cart fleet, starter/ranger program, and tee time scheduling.
    • Maintain professional standards of facility appearance, merchandising, and cleanliness.
  • Foster a welcoming, service-oriented environment for members, guests, and staff.
  • Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and concerns with professionalism and a solution-oriented approach.
  • Staff Leadership: Recruit, train, and supervise golf shop staff, assistant professionals, outside services and starters/rangers.
  • Tournaments and Events: Plan, organize and execute member tournaments, outings, and leagues.
  • Merchandising: Manage golf shop inventory, buying plans, pricing strategies, and vendor relationships. Ensure attractive and effective merchandise displays.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and mentor golf shop and outside service employees. Ensure compliance with all club policies and industry standards.
  • Promote a safe working and playing environment.

Qualifications

PGA Class A Membership preferred.

All licenses and training required by law or regulation

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Proficient with Microsoft Office, project management tools, and maintenance management software.

Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.

 

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma required; some college preferred
  • Enrollment in or completion of PGA Golf Management Program
  • Minimum of 4 years golf shop management experience
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills to help create effective customer-focused relationships with all levels within the organization.
  • Able to work under tight deadlines and use time effectively based on key priorities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate command of computer hardware/software, specifically Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Assist Course Manager in making golf shop merchandise decisions
  • Code golf shop invoices and help monitor the operations budget
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Communicate, receive and exchange ideas and information by means of spoken and written communication.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs. following appropriate safety procedures.
  • Ability to:
    • work in an upright standing position for long periods of time
    • Crawl in small and tight spaces.
    • work in different environmental working conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain).
    • Walk and climb stairs.
  • Extensive use of fingers for typing and visual use of the computer monitor.
  • Handle, grasp, feel objects and equipment.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to quickly and easily navigate property/buildings are required to meet the job functions.
  • Repeat various motions with wrists, hands and fingers.
  • Ability to detect auditory and/or visual emergency alarms.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights above ground level.
  • Ability to hear, understand and respond appropriately to verbal requests made in person and over the telephone.
  • Ability to respond verbally in an understandable, professional manner in person and over the telephone.
  • Ability to stoop and bend.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends if needed.
